Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford Appeals Case
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 12:27 pm

Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford is appealing the federal bribery conviction that drove him from office and has him headed to prison.

Langford's lawyer filed papers Tuesday with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals saying he was challenging the conviction.

The defense will file additional arguments later giving its grounds for the appeal.

Langford was convicted on 60 felony charges and removed from office for taking bribes including expensive jewelry, clothes, loan payments and cash. A Montgomery investment banker admitted showering Langford with items to get bond business while Langford was president of the Jefferson County Commission.

A judge last week sentenced Langford to 15 years in prison. He has to report to prison on April 5.
