Ala teen charged with sexual abuse at day careCLAY, Ala. (AP) — A teenager is accused of sexually abusing children at a day care in Jefferson County. The sheriff's office in Birmingham says 17-year-old Eric Lemont Higden is charged with sexually abusing children less than 12 years old, and sodomy. Authorities say Higden's mother worked at Mama's Place Christian Academy in Clay, where allegations surfaced last month. The say the claims involved four children ranging in age from 3 to 5. A news release says Higden visited the center while his mother worked there, but he wasn't employed. Higden is free on a bond of $150,000. Court records aren't yet available to show whether he has hired a lawyer. The sheriff's office says the worker was fired by the day care, and neither she nor her son is cooperating with investigators. |
