ELBA, Ala. (AP) — Coffee County jurors have convicted a man of murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Authorities say 46-year-old Freddie Caldwell Jr. faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in the slaying of 49-year-old Evelyn Mincy Carpenter.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Kaminski tells The Dothan Eagle (http://bit.ly/Rp2QXP ) jurors convicted Caldwell after about two hours of deliberation on Monday.

Caldwell was arrested in February 2011. Prosecutors argued that Caldwell told an inmate at the county jail he was going to kill Carpenter a week before the stabbing occurred.

Sentencing will be held later.
