Authorities identify body of victim who drowned

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Authorities have identified the body of a person who drowned to death in a Blackbelt community.

WAKA-TV (http://bit.ly/Rgzuzp ) reports that the victim was identified on Wednesday as 48-year-old Julius Jerome Smith. Investigators say Smith's death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Investigators say Smith was fishing in a pond on a private property with a friend when the boat they were riding had capsized on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the friend was able to return to shore, but Smith drowned before he could be rescued.
