Appeals Court drops lawsuit against Ala. stationsMONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama appeals court has ruled against a man who claims he was defamed by two Huntsville television stations. The Court of Civil Appeals issued a ruling Friday the replaced one originally issued in August. It affirmed the decision of a Madison County Court to dismiss the lawsuit by Namath Joe Jackson. He claimed WAAY and WAFF reported in 2010 that he was wanted by police in a shooting, but did not report when police determined he was no longer a suspect. The appeals court said it dismissed the defamation claim because the original report that he was a suspect was true based on information available at the time. The court also ruled that nothing in Alabama law required the stations to do another report when Jackson wasn't a suspect. |
