Former Ala. trooper pleads to ethics violationBAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) — A former state trooper has pleaded guilty to violating the state ethics law by using a state credit card to buy gas for his personal use. Attorney General Luther Strange said 48-year-old Jonathan Dees of Spanish Fort entered the plea Thursday in Baldwin County. Dees previously worked at the Mobile office of the state Department of Public Safety. He was given a suspended sentence of five years and ordered to serve six months of supervised probation. He has already repaid $2,204 for purchases between July 2009 and January 2011. Strange called it a sad example of someone betraying the trust of the taxpayers and his fellow law enforcement officers. He said court documents included video evidence of Dees purchasing gas. |
