Escaped Etowah County inmate found in dumpsterGADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — An escapee from the Etowah County Jail was a free man for 13 minutes Tuesday before he was found hiding in a dumpster near the jail. Sheriff Todd Entrekin said that 20-year old inmate Antonius Dean Blount of Gadsden left out of the jail's north gate at 1:52 p.m. He was headed back to jail at 2:05 p.m. when Detention Deputy Dale Hyatt found Blount hiding inside a dumpster behind a local pharmacy. Entrekin said a mistake was made by the jail's staff that allowed Blount to get out the gate. Entrekin said a non-lethal weapon was used to restrain Blount when he was taken into custody. Blount is being held on $51,000 bond for first degree robbery and second degree unlawful possession of marijuana. Additional charges are pending. |
