BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Officials at Hostess Brands confirmed Friday that the company's liquidation will also result in layoffs at facilities the company owns in Alabama.

Al.com (http://bit.ly/ZJeZhF) reports that 135 Hostess employees at the Merita Bakery in Birmingham will be laid off.

The company provided the newspaper with a list of 19 retail storefronts it operates in Alabama, but could not yet elaborate on how many additional employees could be left jobless.

The newspaper reports that as many as 200 people in total could be laid off.

A total of 18,500 Hostess employees will be impacted nationwide.
