Infant dies after vehicle, train collide in Ala.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say an infant girl who was injured when a SUV and train collided has died.

Officials say the accident happened Tuesday night accident on Kappa Avenue near Center Place South.

Authorities say a SUV drove around a lowered gate to try outrunning a train after another vehicle had done so successfully. A train clipped the vehicle and the infant was ejected from it.

Officials say the girl was hospitalized at Children's of Alabama in critical condition before succumbing to her injuries. Information on when the girl was pronounced dead was not immediately available.

Three other adults who were in the vehicle have been treated and released. No charges have been filed, and police say they're investigating the incident.
