MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — State Rep. Yvonne Kennedy of Mobile has died at age 67.

House of Representatives spokesman Clay Redden said Kennedy died Saturday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The cause of death was not immediately known, though Kennedy had sought medical testing.

She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1979 and was among its longer-serving members.

Kennedy was a former chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.

Under state law, Gov. Robert Bentley must order a special election to fill the vacancy created by her death.
