Personal trainer convicted of killing woman
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A personal trainer has been convicted of murder in the killing of a 41-year-old woman whose throat was slit with a knife.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/W08yrd ) that 53-year-old Gordon Fowler was found guilty of the Feb. 18 killing on Wednesday. Jurors deliberated for more than 12 hours before returning the verdict.
Fowler admitted testified that he killed Lori Skinner Thomas by slitting her throat, but his defense asked jurors to convict him of manslaughter rather than murder.
Fowler told police that Thomas started taunting and hitting him after a sexual encounter between them in which he failed to perform satisfactorily.
He then described killing Thomas, feeling a sense of unreality, and then trying to dispose of the knife and his blood-spattered clothes.
Fowler's sentencing is set for Jan. 10.
