Ala. man shot by New Year's reveler

IRONDALE, Ala. (AP) — Police say a central Alabama man was shot twice after trying to stop a New Year's reveler from firing gunshots into the air.

AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/12WiBhT ) the victim was wounded in his chest and shoulder around 8 a.m. in a neighborhood of mobile homes in Irondale.

The unidentified man was taken to the University of Alabama Hospital and authorities say his injuries were not life threatening. Information on the victim's age was not immediately available.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a white SUV and was armed with a 9mm handgun.

Irondale is about six miles east of Birmingham.
