ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Officials in Marshall County say a family in Albertville lost their home and pet puppy in a house fire.

WAFF-TV (http://bit.ly/10GkUWV) reports the fire happened Sunday afternoon and the family believes it began in the utility room.

Authorities say the family was able to escape the house before it was consumed by flames, but a puppy that was given to one of the children as a Christmas present died.

The Albertville Fire Marshal says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Albertville is about 50 miles southeast of Huntsville.
