Ala. man arrested in Tuscaloosa YMCA stabbing

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Police say a 66-year-old man has been charged with assault after stabbing a man who hit him with a towel at a YMCA in downtown Tuscaloosa.

AL.com reports Larry Travis was taken into custody after the victim was stabbed in his chest around 8:20 p.m. Monday.

The unidentified 38-year-old victim is hospitalized at DCH Regional Medical Center and is being treated for a collapsed lung.

It is unclear if Travis has a lawyer.

Ala. man shot by New Year's reveler

IRONDALE, Ala. (AP) — Police say a central Alabama man was shot twice after trying to stop a New Year's reveler from firing gunshots into the air.

AL.com reports the victim was wounded in his chest and shoulder around 8 a.m. in a neighborhood of mobile homes in Irondale.

The unidentified man was taken to the University of Alabama Hospital and authorities say his injuries were not life threatening. Information on the victim's age was not immediately available.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a white SUV and was armed with a 9mm handgun.

Irondale is about six miles east of Birmingham.

DUMP TRUCK-DEATH

Man identified in fatal construction accident

PELIKA, Ala. (AP) — The Lee County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was killed in a construction accident as 29-year-old Legary Antely Jr., of Smiths Station — which is about20 miles west of Opelika.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports Antley was crushed Monday when he doing maintenance work on a dump truck.

Authorities say the truck's hydraulics equipment failed and crushed Antley between the vehicles frame and the dump body.

The Lee County Sheriff and the coroner's office are both investigating the incident.

ALBERTVILLE-HOUSE FIRE

Fire destroys home in Albertville

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Officials in Marshall County say a family in Albertville lost their home and pet puppy in a house fire.

WAFF-TV reports the fire happened Sunday afternoon and the family believes it began in the utility room.

Authorities say the family was able to escape the house before it was consumed by flames, but a puppy that was given to one of the children as a Christmas present died.

The Albertville Fire Marshal says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Albertville is about 50 miles southeast of Huntsville.

MOVIE STABBING

Ala. man fatally stabbed in argument over movies

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) — A 34-year-old man has been arrested in a fatal stabbing police say stemmed from unreturned movies.

WAFF-TV reports Kenny Adams is charged with murder in the death of his cousin, Yancy Foster.

Authorities say the two fought in a trailer park over two unreturned movies and Foster was stabbed with a pocket knife Monday afternoon.

Limestone County sheriff's officials say Adams left the scene, returned later and was arrested.

Athens is about 25 miles west of Huntsville.
