Personal trainer sentenced in slaying of Ala womanMONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A judge in Montgomery sentenced a personal trainer to 75 years in prison for killing a woman after a sexual encounter. The Montgomery Advertiser (http://on.mgmadv.com/ZxomOy ) reported Thursday that a judge rejected relatives' pleas of a shorter prison sentence for 53-year-old Gordon Fowler. Fowler was convicted of murder last month in the slaying of 41-year-old Lori Skinner Thomas. Fowler admitted using a knife to slit Thomas' throat during an argument last February. Fowler told police that Thomas started taunting and hitting him after a sexual encounter in which he failed to perform satisfactorily. The defense had asked jurors to convict Thomas only of manslaughter, not murder. A prosecutor says she is satisfied with the sentence imposed by Montgomery County Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick. |
