GARDENDALE, Ala. (AP) — Police say an Alabama pastor charged with murder in the shooting of his wife remains hospitalized with stab wounds from an apparent suicide attempt.

The Rev. Terry Greer underwent surgery and was still under police guard Monday at a hospital in Birmingham.

Gardendale police say Greer might he released later this week. He'll be taken to jail when he is.

Greer is the senior pastor at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church near Birmingham. He's accused of killing wife Lisa Greer and wounding their 18-year-old in a shooting on Thursday.

Police say Greer tried to stab himself to death after the shooting.

Court records aren't yet available to show whether the pastor has a lawyer. His wife's funeral is tomorrow in Scottsboro.

Greer's daughter has been released from the hospital.
