Ala. man rescued after building collapses on him
JASPER, Ala. (AP) — A man helping to demolish a building in downtown Jasper has been rescued after debris from the building collapsed on him.
WBRC-TV (http://bit.ly/SEq3ww ) reports the city employee, Billy Wade, was riding in a track hoe when another worker hit a wall of the building and caused it to collapse Tuesday morning.
Wade says the enclosed top of the machinery he was using shielded him from most of the rubble. The machine turned on its side when the building collapsed and it took crews about 10 minutes to remove the man. It was unclear if he was injured.
Because of the unexpected collapse, workers say the front wall of the building may also come down. Officials have blocked off a nearby street and are attempting to knock the wall down.
