4 inches of snow reported in parts of Ala.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A winter weather system that crossed Alabama has left some parts of the state under 4 inches of snow.

National Weather Service forecasters in Huntsville say the city was dusted with snow while 3 inches of snow fell in Hartselle — southwest of Huntsville. Forecasters say about 2 inches of snow has fallen in Albertville and about 3 inches of snow fell atop Mount Cheaha in the Talladega National Forest near the Georgia border.

By Thursday evening the weather system moved toward Georgia, taking snow, sleet and cold air with it. National Weather Forecasters say temperatures could drop to freezing or below freezing around 9 p.m.

No major power outages or severe traffic accidents have been reported.
