IRONDALE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding human remains found in a wooded area in Irondale.

Irondale police tell WBRC-TV (http://bit.ly/SJCYvH) that they are investigating the case as a homicide.

The remains were discovered near the Eastwood Mobile Home Village on Alton Road. Irondale police Det. Michael Mangina says police were called to the area around 6:30 p.m. Thursday after a hiker discovered a skull and a bone.

Investigators said they had to hike 200 to 250 yards downhill to reach the area where the remains were discovered.

On Friday morning, investigators discovered more bones, which appear to be a rib, arm and pelvis.

Police planned to release more details during a Friday afternoon news conference.
