Ala. lieutenant governor meets with Senate leaders
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey has met with Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh of Anniston and Senate Minority Leader Vivian Figures of Mobile in preparation for the 2013 session of the Legislature.
Ivey says she expects Marsh and Figures to display the leadership needed to make the 2013 session productive. The session begins Tuesday.
Ivey praised Figures for being the first female to serve as minority or majority leader in the House or Senate.
Ivey called Figures' new position "another first in Alabama history."
Figures says she hopes to provide calm leadership of the Democrats in the Senate and will work to continue to provide an example for young people in Alabama. Figures' late husband, Michael Figures, was the first black president pro tem in the Senate.
