(AP) — A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, the second meeting day of the regular session: HOUSE: —Met briefly to allow legislators to introduce bills and handle routine procedural business. SENATE: —Met briefly to handle routine procedural business. COMMITTEES: —Senate Education Committee held a public hearing, but did not vote on a bill to give school systems more flexibility in complying with state laws. —Senate Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability Committee approved five bills that are part of a government efficiency and consolidation package affecting the state's law enforcement agencies, information technology programs, and legislative services. Go to Senate. —Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee approved a bill requiring the repayment of $437 million taken from a state trust fund to shore up the state General Fund budget. Goes to Senate. —House Education Policy Committee approved a bill to give school systems more flexibility. —House Health Committee killed a bill to legalize medical marijuana. —House Health Committee approved a bill to stiffen the regulations regarding the operation of abortion clinics.
