Ala. man pleads guilty in fatal double shootingHUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man has been sentenced to life in prison in deaths of two Alabama A&M students. Wilbert Smith pleaded guilty in the shooting deaths of Bertjenski Peterson and Ronnie Pugh Jr. in August 2008. Authorities say the victims were found bound and gagged inside of a house. Smith's blood was found on the crime scene, but his attorneys argued that wasn't proof that he shot the victims. A jury deliberated for more than five hours before 32-year-old Smith was ordered to serve two life sentences without the possibility of parole. Smith has already pleaded guilty in a drive-by shooting that left a teenager dead in Montgomery more than a decade ago. |
