WTVY news director Jeff Raker dies in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — Dothan television station WTVY news director Jeff Raker has died. He was 56.

WTVY-TV says on its website that Raker died Friday morning at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

The statement on the station's website extends condolences to Raker's wife Darcy, his son Zachary and daughter Alyssa.

Raker was news director at WTVY from 1997 through 1999. He returned to the same position there in April. He held similar jobs at stations in Youngstown, Ohio; Jefferson City, Mo., and Sioux City, Iowa.

Online tributes to Raker remembered him as a devoted family man who was passionate about his work.

WTVY general manager Mike Smith said in a statement to employees that Raker played a major role with the station.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
