Ala. woman critically injured after car hits her

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Huntsville police are investigating a crash in which a pedestrian was critically injured as she crossed a road.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/10jdzJt ) the woman was struck by a car early Saturday as she crossed University Drive near a McDonald's restaurant.

A Huntsville police report identified the woman as Bethany Gallegos but did not give her age. The report says she stepped into the path of a westbound vehicle, but does not say whether police have determined if the pedestrian or the driver was at fault.

The injured woman was taken to Huntsville Hospital at about 3 a.m. Police say her injuries, though serious, do not appear to be life-threatening.
