MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has overturned a capital murder conviction for a man accused in the death of a 5-year-old boy.

Kevin Towles was sentenced to death in the 2006 slaying of 5-year-old Geontae Glass. The boy's body was found in the trunk of a car parked on property Towles owned and the man was convicted in 2009.

The Court of Criminal Appeals Monday reversed the conviction and has remanded the case to Etowah County. The boy's mother, Shalinda Glass, reported her son missing and later pleaded guilty to her role in the boy's death.

Authorities have said the boy was beaten to death over a bad report card.
