TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A woman has pleaded guilty to having sex with a student while she was employed as a bus driver.

Authorities say 39-year-old Hollie Thomas pleaded guilty Monday in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court to a count of a school employee engaging in a sexual act with a student. She was given a five-year suspended prison sentence and will serve supervised probation for three years.

Thomas was charged in July 2011 when authorities learned she was having an ongoing relationship with a 17-year-old boy. In Alabama, it is a felony for school employees to have sex with students under the age of 19. The state's age of consent is 16.
