Ala. man sentenced to life in robbery, shooting
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A man was given consecutive life sentences in a robbery that led to the fatal shooting of a police officer.
Ronald Crear pleaded guilty in March to attempted murder and robbery in the 2012 shootout at a Winn-Dixie. A judge Thursday sentenced 22-year-old Crear although authorities say he didn't fire his gun.
AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/11VcEhG) investigators say co-defendant Jackeith Harrison, who is scheduled to go on trial next week, fired the shots. A Winn-Dixie employee accused of helping orchestrate the robbery is scheduled to go to trial next month. Both are charged with robbery and attempted murder.
Defense Attorney Walter Honeycutt urged the judge to run the sentences concurrently so Crear may have a chance at parole.
Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says she's satisfied with the judge's ruling.
