VALLEY, Ala. (AP) — A high school in east Alabama was put on lockdown Thursday after police found a large amount of marijuana and a loaded AK-47 in a student's car.

Several law enforcement agencies were conducting a joint search for illegal drugs and a drug-sniffing dog became fixated on a car in Valley High School's parking lot.

Authorities say they recovered 18 bags of marijuana and arrested a 16-year-old student on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a deadly weapon on the premises of a public school. The unidentified teen was taken to the Lee County Youth Development Center.
