BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Birmingham's regional chamber of commerce is teaming up with the University of Alabama at Birmingham on a major internship program.

UAB will be the first campus to join with the Birmingham Business Alliance in a program to provide students with internships at more than 1,000 employers around the city.

The seven-county organization and its 1,100 members will post internship opportunities at an online portal that's accessible through UAB's career services office.

UAB has 18,000 students. The business group eventually plans to offer the same opportunities at every two- and four-year college in the metro region.
