MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Organizers of the inaugural Capital of Dreams Triathlon in Montgomery say it attracted athletes from Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Atlanta.

About 230 athletes jumped into the 70-degree water of the Alabama River for the first leg of Sunday's event.

The swim-bike-run event began and ended on the riverfront in downtown Montgomery. The cycling portion was held on Highway 31.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/187F1zi) that there is a three-year agreement to manage the event in Montgomery, with the possibility of moving it to May to allow the water to warm up some.
