MOULTON, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a Moulton man was found dead inside his home after a fire.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. Sunday near downtown Moulton.

Neighbors and relatives of the 59-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, say he lived there alone.

WAFF-TV reports that firefighters were unable to locate anyone during an initial search of the home due to heavy smoke. After the fire was put out, firefighters found the man's body inside.

Moulton Fire Chief Ryan Jolly tells The TimesDaily that the body was found a few feet from the front door, and it appears that he was trying to get out.

Jolly said an autopsy would be conducted.

Jolly said the state Fire Marshal's Office was investigating. He said a cause hasn't been determined.
