Ala. woman indicted in tax refund scheme

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Department of Justice officials say a Montgomery woman has been indicted for cashing fraudulent tax refund checks.

Authorities Tuesday said Shatoubrione George, known as "Tobie," is charged in a six-count indictment with conspiracy and theft of public funds. Officials say George and others conspired to cash 77 fraudulent U.S. Treasury tax refund checks. Officials say the checks added up to about $137,000 and George and her co-conspirators tried cashing the checks in Wetumpka.

It's unclear if George has a lawyer.
