2 killed when car collides with train in Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Birmingham police said two people died in a collision between a car and an Amtrak train.

Police Sgt. Vincent Green said the collision occurred shortly after noon Sunday at a train crossing at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and 17th Way Southeast. The names of the victims in the car were not immediately released.

An Amtrak spokesman said the train was traveling between New York and New Orleans and none of the 83 passengers on board were injured.
