Summary of action in Alabama Legislature


MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Thursday, the 29th meeting day of the regular session:

HOUSE:

—Gave final approval to a $5.77 billion education budget. Goes to governor.

—Joined the Senate in giving final approval to a bill to remove the executive secretary of the Alabama Education Association from the board of the state pension fund for education employees. Goes to governor.

—Approved a bill to remove the state's limit on campaign contributions by corporations. Goes to Senate.

—Approved a bill to allow school systems to hire armed security officers. Goes to Senate.

SENATE:

—Gave final approval to two bills extending an assessment on nursing homes and hospitals to provide funding for the state Medicaid program. Go to governor.

—Joined the House in giving final approval to a bill to modify the Alabama Accountability bill. Goes to governor.

—Joined the House in giving final approval to the $1.75 billion General Fund budget. Goes to governor.

—Approved a bill to allow workers to keep guns in their vehicles while on the job. Goes to House.
