TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Tuscaloosa police, working with U.S. marshals and city code officials, say they found 22 sex offenders to be violating conditions of their release.

Police said in a statement Tuesday that the citywide check of all sex offenders occurred late last month.

Authorities say 114 sex offenders were checked.

Of the 22 found with violations, 17 have been arrested. One of the offenders is in custody in another county and authorities have active warrants out for the remaining four.

Most of the suspects found to be in violation have been charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
