MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A woman accused of flinging a puppy from a third-floor balcony in 2012 has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

The Mobile Press Register (http://bit.ly/16Ai7Sh) reports 21-year-old Kendria Monique Dexter is ordered to serve three years of probation, pay court costs and pay a local veterinarian $2,300 for caring for the injured dog.

Authorities say Dexter threw the 9-week-old dachshund, Lola, from the balcony March 27, 2012 during an argument with her roommate.

The veterinarian who treated the dog said Lola struggled to breathe, could not stand and was in a near comatose state after the incident. The dog has since been adopted by a family in Georgia.

Dexter is scheduled to be sentenced May 29.
