Ex-Ala. paralegal sentenced in embezzlement scheme
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A paralegal accused of stealing about $396,000 from a lawyer and his clients has been sentenced to 40 months in prison.
The Mobile Press-Register reports (http://bit.ly/10BzIkp ) Katrina Duke Williamson was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Mobile. The woman was accused of stealing from the law office of Stephen Middleton between February 2008 and June 2011.
The attorney said Williamson stole his son's $125,000 college fund and he may have to file bankruptcy because of the theft. One of his clients said she was forced into bankruptcy and Williamson stole was supposed to be used to settle her daughter's debts after she died in a car crash.
Williamson has been ordered to serve five years of supervised release after her sentence.
