Fight injures Ala fire chief, sparks resignations

McINTOSH, Ala. (AP) — A fight between a mayor and a fire chief has left a southwest Alabama town in disarray.

WKRG-TV ( ) reports a fight broke out Tuesday during a council meeting at McIntosh Town Hall between Mayor Wilbert Dixon and Fire Chief Robert Davidson.

Davidson wound up at a hospital with minor injuries and was fired, and the mayor signed a warrant for his arrest.

Now, about 20 volunteer firefighters have walked off the job in the Washington County town of about 240 residents.

Davidson's family insists he is a victim, and the mayor is declining comment.

It's not clear what started the argument, but the men haven't gotten along.

Davidson served as fire chief in McIntosh for 13 years. He's free on bond and is due in court on June 24.
