Trooper shoots, kills suspect after chase

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a state trooper shot and killed a suspect after a brief high-speed chase in south Alabama.

Alabama State Troopers say the suspect fled on a motorcycle from the trooper around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Trooper Kevin Cook said the short chase was followed by a foot pursuit and confrontation between the trooper and the suspect, who authorities said was armed. He said the trooper fired his weapon and killed the suspect, who was identified as 21-year-old Garrett Joshua Chruma of the Eight Mile community in Mobile County.

A statement from the Alabama Department of Public Safety did not say what the suspect was armed with or provide other details of what led up to the shooting.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is expected to investigate the case.
