Auburn Univ. official dies in possible drowning

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — An administrator at Auburn University has died in a possible drowning at a Florida beach.

The Walton County, Fla., sheriff's office said Guerry Lowther Jr. died Tuesday after being pulled from the waters of Blue Mountain Beach. He was 63 years old and lived in Prattville.

Authorities told AL.com (http://bit.ly/156Mnyx ) that Lowther may have suffered a medical emergency while in the water.

He worked as the senior analyst in Auburn's Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. He also served on Auburn's Campus Planning Committee, its Residency Appeals Committee, the Faculty Salaries Committee and other groups.

He also served as a member of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education's Financial Advisory Council and the Higher Education Information Advisory Group Steering Committee.
