DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — Alabama authorities say a man who barricaded himself inside a home with hostages surrendered peacefully in Midland City, where a prolonged bunker standoff with a child hostage captured national attention months ago.

The Dothan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/11T4Z33 ) police, Alabama state troopers and a SWAT team from neighboring Dothan surrounded a home Saturday morning. Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson says a man armed with an assault rifle barricaded himself inside with what authorities believe were members of his family.

Olson says negotiators persuaded the man to give up after about two hours. He was taken to the Dale County jail but his name was not immediately released.

Midland City was the scene of a six-day standoff in which Jimmy Lee Dykes held a boy hostage underground before authorities killed him.
