BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who drowned while trying to unclog a drain in the deep end of a pool.

Officials say 53-year-old David Spearman and two of his friends were trying to unclog a pool drain in Birmingham Saturday afternoon when he drowned.

Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian says Spearman's wife saw him at the bottom of the pool and assumed he was working on the drain.

Christian says she noticed that Spearman had stopped moving and called his friends over to help remove him from the pool. Christian says Spearman's friends tried giving him CPR and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

AL.com (http://bit.ly/19KJzit ) reports an autopsy is being conducted on Spearman and his death has been ruled accidental.
