Vehicles damaged by hole in Alabama interstate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Motorists say several vehicles were damaged after they hit a large hole in an interstate in downtown Birmingham.

WBRC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/12JZtUL) that the vehicles were damaged Thursday night in the northbound center lane in the area of the Red Mountain Expressway interchange.

The Birmingham station reports that the hole is about four to five feet wide.

An Alabama Department of Transportation crew was beneath the bridge deck inspecting the hole shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. It was not immediately known when repairs would be made.
