Lauderdale County man charged with assaulting 4


FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — A Lauderdale County man is accused of shooting into a large crowd and injuring four people.

Florence police say 22-year-old Chauncey Laray Mitchell of Florence is charged with first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault and a firearms charge. He is free on $75,000 bail.

Lt. Mike Holt said Mithcell was involved in an argument at a Colbert County nightclub. Shortly afterward, a large group gathered outside a community center in Florence. He said Mitchell is accused of driving up about 3 a.m. Friday and firing a handgun an undetermined number of times.

Holt said three people were treated at a hospital and released. One was admitted with a non-life threatening injury.

Court records do no indicate if Mitchell has an attorney yet.
