Selma teacher still paid despite charges

SELMA, Ala. (AP) — A Selma school teacher remains on the payroll despite being arrested months ago on charges of having sexual contact with students.

The Selma Times-Journal ( ) reports that 36-year-old LaTanglia Williams is on paid administrative leave from her job at Selma High School.

City school superintendent Gerald Shirley says the school board hasn't fired the woman, and it's unclear whether she will be allowed to continue working at the school.

Williams was arrested at the school in April on charges of having sexual relations with multiple students at Selma High.

Williams has pleaded not guilty, and the state is investigating the city school system.

It's unclear whether Williams could return to work since a judge prohibited her from having any contact with children.
