Ala man shot, killed in dispute over property
NORTPORT, Ala. (AP) — Police say a Tuscaloosa County man is dead after he and a neighbor exchanged gunshots across the fence separating their homes.
Northport police say 71-year-old Roy Sewell was shot to death Friday while arguing with a neighbor about the location of a property line.
Investigators interviewed the other man but didn't charge him. Police Sgt. Dale Phillips says it may have been a case of self-defense, and authorities have yet to determine which man instigated the dispute.
One of the men was cutting his grass at the time of the argument. Phillips says the men had clashed over their adjoining property and the chain-link fence that divides it in the past.
Police aren't saying which man fired first.
