WBMA, WSFA and Ala. Public Radio win APME awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Associated Press Media Awards for most outstanding broadcast news operations have gone to WBMA-TV, WSFA-TV and Alabama Public Radio.

The awards were presented Saturday in Birmingham.

The awards for best regularly scheduled newscast went to WBHM in radio and to WAFF and WVTM for television. The radio award for best anchor was presented to Marcus Hyles of WVAS. T.W. Starr of WAAY and Devon Walsh of WKRG were named best TV news anchors. Derek Steyer of WSFA and Patrick Claybon of WIAT were chosen best TV sports anchors, The awards for best TV weather anchor went to Spencer Denton of WAAY and James Spann of WBMA.

WAKA-TV won the broadcast cooperation award.

The AP is a not-for-profit news cooperative representing 1,500 newspapers and 5,000 broadcast stations in the U.S.
