Huntsville, Anniston, Opelika win APME awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Huntsville Times, The Anniston Star and the Opelika-Auburn News have won the Alabama Associated Press Media Editors awards for news sweepstakes.

The awards were presented Saturday in Birmingham.

The Birmingham News, The Tuscaloosa News and the Opelika-Auburn News received the sports sweepstakes awards. The photo portfolio awards went to The Huntsville Times, the Montgomery Advertiser, and The Daily Home in Talladega. The freedom of information awards were presented to The Birmingham News, The Decatur Daily, and The Daily Home.

The Dothan Eagle got the member cooperation award for photos, and the Montgomery Advertiser received the Ron Autry Overall Cooperation award.

The Associated Press is a not-for-profit news cooperative representing 1,500 newspapers and 5,000 broadcast stations in the United States.
