Inmate escapes from Alabama work release center


MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Department of Corrections officials say they're searching for an inmate who disappeared from a work release center.

Officials say Shannon Crompton was last seen at the Frank Lee Work Release Center and was reported missing around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say Crompton is a white man who is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Officials say Crompton was sentenced in Shelby County to 22 years in prison on charges of robbery and forgery.
