Dad of Ala middle school shooter arrested
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A north Alabama doctor has been arrested on charges of stealing more than $7,000 from the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
The state attorney general's office says 51-year-old Iqbal Ahmed Memon of Madison is charged with theft.
Memon is the father of 17-year-old Hammad Memon, who pleaded guilty in May to killing a middle school classmate in 2010.
The father already is awaiting trial on charges of trying to help his son escape the country following the shooting. The teenager's mother also is charged in that case.
Authorities say Iqbal Memon is in custody in Madison County. Officials plan to take him to Montgomery County, where the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Unit will prosecute the case.
Hammad Memon is serving 30 years in prison for murder.
